"Should I Become a Realtor?"

I've been getting this question more and more lately. So, here are three important things for consideration when thinking about becoming a realtor in 2022:

1. You must be tech savvy and like tech. Texting, emailing, using your phone, using apps like digital signatures, digital storage, etc. If you are unwilling to become savvy then it is highly likely this is not the right path for you.

2. You must be willing to put in the work of lead generation. It is the ONLY way to survive and thrive in this business. Leads = appointments = agreements = contracts = closings. If you have no desire to tell 50 people a week you're in real estate and ask for the business, then this is likely not the right path for you.

3. You need to be willing to work the hours. A tremendous amount of this career is evenings and weekends. You will be out with buyers when they can be out and negotiating deals with your listing clients when they can negotiate deals. Many times, after 5pm or even after 8pm "when the kids are in bed." If you are unwilling to conform to the schedule required for success, then this may not be the path for you.

The most important thing to be aware of is being a great REALTOR is being a great salesperson. Real estate IS sales. You're selling yourself. You're selling your buyers on the properties they want. You're selling the public on your listings. You're selling your co-op agents on your listings. You're selling your negotiating position for home inspections, financing issues, closing issues, pre-sale repairs, pricing... You sell all day every day.

If you're excited about that, great.

If you're not excited about that, then you really have to ask if it's right for you.
