"How long does it take to buy a home?"

The average timeline from preparation to searching to closing is anywhere from 6-8+ weeks. In a simple scenario, it's broken down like this:


  • Realtor Meeting

  • Mortgage Approval: 1-2 weeks

  • Viewing homes: 1 - X weeks

  • Under contract: 2 weeks

  • Conditionally sold: 2 - 4 + weeks

  • Closing day


So the most efficient timeline is ~ 6 weeks and it can run up to 8+ weeks.


Obviously, depending on the home type you're looking for - your search for could take weeks or months, depending on whether you’re a first time buyer looking for a simple home, a move-up family in search of the perfect home in your desired neighbourhood, or downsizing waiting for the right condo or bungalow to hit the market.
